Carl Hilding Severinsen, better known by his stage name Doc Severinsen, is a well-known jazz musician in the United States. He has been involved in the music genre of jazz for almost seven decades. Severinsen has collaborated with several notable musicians, including Billy Mure, Henry Mancini, Chris Connor, Urbie Green, Gerry Mulligan, Tito Puente, Dinah Washington, Gil Evans, Milt Jackson, Ben Webster, Gil Gutierrez, and Pedro Cartas, among others.
The musician is most recognized for leading the band on Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show. He has also appeared in films and television shows such as Never Too Late: The Doc Severinsen Story, Johnny Carson: King of Late Night, Sharky’s Machine, I Stand Corrected, Fatal Instinct, Nude on the Moon, Mr. Warmth: The Don Rickles Project, The Winds of Whoopie, The Timex All-Star Swing Festival, and others.
Severinsen is regarded as one of the greatest trumpeters of all time for his contributions to jazz music. Throughout his career, he has garnered numerous honors. Doc Severinsen received two Grammy nominations in 1973, for Best Pop Instrumental Performance by an Instrumental Performer and Best Pop Instrumental Performance by an Arranger, or Composer. Fortunately, he was employed by the NBC network in 1949. In 1962, he became a lead musician on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In, Bonanza, The Bionic Woman, Cheers, The Larry Sanders Show, and Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show were among the other shows in which the artist performed. Severinsen’s most well-known albums include Once More…with Feeling!, Night Journey, Brand New Thing, and The Tonight Show Band with Doc Severinsen.
