Considering the block a member of the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets doled out to a wayward SMU player to save the school’s mascot last Saturday, one might think Ryan Kreider would be rewarded with a football scholarship. Instead, the sophomore student, who saved the canine mascot known as Reveille, got a pair of boots worth a reported $1,326, the Associated Press reports (via ESPN).
The boots aren’t just any old pair, however. They’re a custom-made set by Victor’s Shoe & Boot Repair in Bryan, Texas. Why footwear? Well, the expensive boots, which resemble English riding boots and are quite handsome, are a tradition for Aggie Corps of Cadets seniors, according to Brig. Gen. Joe Ramirez Jr. (via the AP). He’s the Corps’ commandant and also the one who offered to, um, foot the bill for Kreider’s custom kicks. However, considering Kreider’s still got two more years to go before he becomes a college senior, he may have to wait a while before wearing his spoils.
