[Music] that's a championship team right there welcome inside the georgia dome here in downtown atlanta for game three of our four championship games tonight and oh my goodness this may be the best of all the class 4a championship between the teams that have been one and two the entire season the defending champion carter's the purple hurricanes the champions out of region five and the thompson bulldogs coming in at 14-0 number two in the state as well and they come out of region three both these teams 14-0 and oh my goodness we are so glad you're with us larry smith john nelson here along and you know we've been telling this uh they've been number one for four months now one and two marry each other both high-powered offenses both stingy defenses and at the same time when the brackets came out i'm sure that everyone looked at where they were upper left lower right and this was the matchup that everyone was going to be expecting when you had mcduffie county and thompson with the great running game and cartersville obviously as one of our great orators rick flair used to say to be the man you've got to beat the man and that's what thompson is out to do today that's right in fact really cartersville coach joey kingston thompson a lot like they were last year trying to here trying to get their first championship in quite a while let's talk first about uh the thompson bulldogs right now and what they've done i mentioned 14-0 uh but and 46 points for gamers so they're averaging and they run the ball and they run the ball and guess what run the ball they run the ball and here's your 2 000 yard rusher who really is you want to say that he's the bell cow but when you've got bubba murray behind him at over a thousand yards 2239 yards from michael thomas and he is one of the keys today offensively he gets away he gets to the edge he gets gone for speaking english very goodly thompson is going to have their way offensively against cartersville but can they get to the edge that's the big question that's the big question against the defense that again is underrated on the other side cartersville let's face it there is one name on top of this offense it is well and first off we talk about the uh again on the defensive side christian tut christian tut this will be an interesting match up the four star recruit has i think officially 110 billion offers from all of division one when it comes to ncaa left came back now he's back home in thompson and they will probably match up tut against the number one receiver that is perceived in that cartersville offense right in fact i think he's got even australia obviously so i think if he really checks international offers for christians that's male exactly he's good what we're trying to say now to the other side at cartersville there is one name we talked about in the in the pre-game in the uh the extra point show uh early action show it is that of trevor lawrence and jackie britton has been following the arms race this year and trevor lawrence the number one recruit in the country as a junior you look at the numbers 49 and 9. so it's about five and a half tds to interception ratio even gets on his wheels a little bit when he has to duck his head but you look at the completion ratio 23 out of 37 on average so about 60 percent of his passes trevor lawrence a tremendous junior year to try to follow up the sophomore season where they got the title absolutely and then we go to another player to watch it tonight they hear these for these purple hurricanes it is that young man right there the guy behind him the other big guy in the office i guess we could say he's the cream in the cartersville coffee trey creamer he'll be on both sides of the ball he'll be getting a lot of action you see right there 250 total yards of offense for this cartersville output so number one target you like to think would be number one but trevor lawrence likes to spread it around so we'll see that's right thompson going for their first state championship since 2002 cartersville going for the rare back-to-back 15-0 records 15-0 seasons and state championships as well now the third member of our team is sam crenshaw down to the sidelines sam what do you have for us harry this has been a very emotional year for the thompson football team and the entire thompson community in june of this year christopher tut the outstanding player who played in the past and thompson passed away in a single car crash there have been three generations of the tech family to play football with thompson high school his younger brother christian is ranked number one player on this team a five star was going to play his high school football this season for img decided to come back home and play for the thompson bulldogs look on the back of their helmets as they play today the ct logo is a tribute to christopher tut the young man this community misses they'll be thinking of him and no doubt dedicated this entire season to his memory what a treaty would be for them to win a win a state championship here tonight sam no question about that look at the thompsonville bulldogs thompson high school uh bulldogs head coach of rob ridings you see there his third season as well and uh what a run it's been four wins in 2014 11-2 last year and 14-0 coming into the georgia dome today leading the bulldogs rob ridings the offensive coordinator for luther welch in 2002 when thompson won oh there we go and joey king we talked about him 41 by the way he and lawrence both 41 and 2 as a duo uh they're not belichick brady just yet but hang on they've got it this game and one more season together uh with these two trevor has better hair he does have better hair than tom movie star looks here's a series history only meaning previously was four years ago cartersville at home beating the bulldogs 21-13 we'll see if thompson can get some revenge tonight so we get started right now thompson in the home black with gold trim it is cartersville and they're road white with the purple trim they'll receive first thompson won the toss and they elected to defend first dakota gurgaon with the kitchen with the reception to the 30 already and oh my goodness to the 40. to midfield candy stand bouncing off again they better start here for the purple hurricanes out of cartersville we saw it yesterday with a big kickoff return for buford to get points on the board on a plunge tres fize picking him up right here and he's going to come right at you in the living room as he peels off to the right hand side of the screen great blocking for cartersville out of the blocks big gain gets him to midfield in this offense another job by fiji on that uh 52-yard return right there to get to cartersville in grapes and uh situation to start and there's a good look at trevor lawrence right there 49 touchdowns only nine interceptions on the season he starts in the gun handoff very quickly to creamer short gain against this tight defense [Music] for thompson our test banks there on the stop here's the look at the cartersville offense corrigan winters curtis wilkins and roots along the front line for them juniors as you can see and the uh other uh players at creamer jefferson horton turner and showwell both he plays both ways for the purple hurricane so one yard gain there for creamer second and nine lawrence all kinds of time now he's under pressure trying to get away he overthrows trying to get it to antoine jefferson i can't get it there how about the thompson defense 3-4 set here there's will roberts aj larkins and devin randall zach johnson 111 tackles to lead the way for this bulldogs defense banks louis and rivers they're number 42 and then in the backfield defensively hunt crawford we talk about christian tut and tyrese jones uh maybe the most underrated performer on this bulldogs defense third and long now for the defending champions from the 46th lawrence fires he's got his man caught at a first down that's ej turner his 37th catch on the season at a first down for carter simple run to the marker turn outside and here it is look at the cushion that you'll see that was given lawrence winds up and throws he knew where he was going the entire time big cushion at the line of scrimmage easy pitch and catch for ej turner 12-yard catch on that one in fact that's a play we saw them just part of their warm-ups was that exact same route so first down for cartersville lawrence quick toss and a big stick number 24. quattro hunt wow good afternoon hello ej turner goes through and then underneath antoine jefferson gets met by hunt the senior jefferson 61 catches now on the season that leads the team three-yard gain second down cartersville trying to take the opening drive down for a score changing the play now nine seconds on the play clock for lawrence under pressure gets it away creamer can't hold on to it well defense there that's hunt once again the senior defensive back help break that play up late developing screen zach johnson into defend you'll see lawrence look and look thought the screen was there in and out of the hands incomplete good defense there good push by that front three for thompson third and seven now for cartersville [Applause] class 4a championship game carterzo trying to make it back to back lawrence on a rollout sees his man caught in complete and a first down to jacoby orr inside the 20. once again just settle down into the zone you see the gap lawrence looking looking finds the outlet right there once again right in front of this receiver receiver brings it in tyrese jones with the tackle but it's simple box out right now get to the marker get the first down box out in front of the defender easy pitches and catches right now on the first drive for cartersville to creamer in the first time play short game for him cartersville as a team has only rushed for slightly over a thousand yards with trevor having thrown for 3 700 you see where the offense goes but creamer the leading rusher averages about six yards a carry when they do use that run as a changeup when he's a good enough back that he does keep you honest on that in three yard game florence again a little high this time and there's a flag it'll get them they're gonna get hunt for past interference in the play intended for ej turner early bump by hunt that time andy smith our referee makes the call you see there the rest of this outstanding officiating crew [Music] passing affairs on the defense half the distance to the goal you saw a member of the crew derek willis here's your play real quick let's watch the early climbing of the ladder by hunt 24 dark right there as ej turner was trying to make the catch you saw on the crew derrick willis 20th year as an official it's his last game he's crewed with his dad bobby and his brother scott they've all worked multiple championships so the willis family getting a championship game and one for their last game wow first and goal now from the game hand off to kramer he's got a hole oh and it closes quickly what a job there by number six xavius lewis the junior just when you think that it's going to get to the second level watch the tackling right at the belt line and then making your way all the way down to the ankles making sure it's all secure short game for creamer down to the five big challenge here for this bulldogs defense they've allowed 10 points or less nine games this season so again the big offensive numbers both of these teams that they pride themselves on defense as well cream on the handoff he's inside the five second push gets down to the three will be third and goal from there artest banks in the tackle 21 for thompson all 230 pounds of him right there you see the eyes of banks keeping an eye on the ball the entire time short game of the ball almost came out kramer had to grab it to make sure he maintained possession third and goal from the three effective drive so far for carter's though but can they cap it off with a touchdown [Applause] florence handoff to creamer goes up high and second effort he gets a name for the touchdown pottersville goes on top first tcsg touchdown replay once again see the gap center right guard spin off the initial contact by jakori crawford number two for thompson creamer gets the touchdown his 19th rushing touchdown of the season jonathan cruz on for the extra point and it's true and just like that carterville taking the opening kickoff and driving it down the field trey creamer the senior going up high the spin move on athletic ability 19th rushing touchdown on the season for creamer and just like that the defending champs draw first blood remember last year 10 nothing shut out of minutes off the clock and let's see how thompson responds here with that running game that has done serious damage to a lot of opponents this year oh it has been unbelievable what they've done they average 313 yards rushing per game that's what they bring to the georgia dome tonight [Music] christian deep to receive for the bulldogs [Music] you're going to see that a lot punts kicks defense christian tut that's why a lot of schools are keeping an eye on it cruz with the kick into the end zone and so the thompson bulldogs 14-0 going on offense for the first time here in the georgia dome class 4a championship game and there's mills writings right there the 6-1 junior you see his numbers completes uh 67 of his passes doesn't throw very much what he does though he's pretty accurate doesn't need to throw and when you're a coach's son you grow up as a ball boy so mills has been around his dad long time coach so ball boy he grew up through the system knows the system and knows what it's like out of the pistol and off quickly and he's got some room that's michael thomas the star first time but he's off to the races oh a great champion that maybe thrown a touchdown by trey creamer what a way to say hello to this georgia dome crowd michael thomas let's take a look at the holes created gonna be the left-hand side of the screen and the cut back right there found the hole center right guard dodges two tackles in three and he's off and running big gain for the bulldogs out of the blocks for the 45. well could be right back at it again this time it's uh thomas again on your cat all kinds of pressure and it's creamer again oh look at that when you look at the thompson offense here's a look at the thompson offense first those guys up front creating those big holes williams and jones uh walker cheatham and gates over on the right side cheatham we'll talk about him in a moment some of your skill players now we talked about thomas will roberts 91 he's a blocker back there trey parker cade and davon crockett are your receivers second down and long now thomas again spin move and leans forward tackle there by sean holton senior linebacker that brings up third downs cartersville defense now holmen's scrutins and wade your linebackers trevor lowe sean holton niven nelson 92 tackles on the year and avery show well 16 and a half tackles for loss for number 28 the senior in the backfield creamer williams copeson and bradley kirk veteran lineup you see a lot of srs and jrs so these guys were in game 15 last year at the dump third and 10 now [Applause] he goes nowhere smothered by white shirts led by trevor lowe the senior and that brings up fourth down [Music] thompson offense you mentioned before boy they are quick and that's one thing that coach king talked about is that hey they have a lot of team speed they play with a chip on their shoulder cartersville wins this round but thompson long way to go and you'll notice these days that that utah pass that kind of trendy thing when you're way back in the pistol or the shotgun as long as it's pitched forward it's considered a forward pass so if the situation like that occurs later on and people are diving after the football it's a forward pass attempt but that seems to be the trendy way to deliver a pass these days officials timeout joey king needs to talk with the officials on his side about some things and as we saw in the pregame show i think pretty much everybody in cartersville and mcduffie county are here tonight this might be our best crowd of the weekend so far well another good one tonight roswell and grayson all that purple and the black and gold of thompson and yeah a lot of that thompson's team made the trip this morning pep rally at the school and they left on the buses come down here to the dome they want to change the routine at all fourth and eleven marcus cade is the punter [Music] fair catch called for and taken by antoine jefferson for cartersville 31-yard lead as they took the opening kickoff down the purple hurricane their resume three times the state champion including last year's undefeated run for the title five straight legion championships you see what they did under coach garden and coach earwood six nfl players ronnie brown keith henderson and robert lavette the former yellowjacket later on in his career among those guys who got onto the pros what a job joey king has done here 41-2 in just his third season in cartersville tremendous build that he's had and he had two years ago it was the young guy it was younger guys so you're looking at freshmen and sophomores getting work and now they're juniors and seniors and you're seeing what they've been able to do going 29 in a row playing in their second game 15. it's pretty impressive that by that young man trevor lawrence as you mentioned the number one pocket passing prospect in the junior class 10 times that's right knows i said it very slowly nice touch there's a creamer and he's got it for a large gain not quite a first down not past the 30-yard line sending everybody the low part of the screen way out into the pattern simple flip out a lot of space there for kramer to run into when all the receivers run fly patterns all the way down the field so big pick up there they call it eight good look at creamer well he's not at all hasn't he scored a touchdown made two big tackles there including a touchdown saving tackle on the first player of scrimmage for thompson and already his first reception of this game as well handoff here for the first down and more creamer out about to the 38-yard line and they'll move the chains leading rusher has the most catches coming into the game with 37. averages about 14 and a half yards a catch he and ej turner one and two on the receiving core but when you look at the targets trevor lawrence has hit nine different receivers on that cartersville roster this year [Music] so first down this time of fake to creamer lawrence gets it away quickly to show up he's out on the edge gets through one tackle now close to a first down maybe just short at the 47 yard line like a nine yard pick up there for avery showwell the senior tight end 43rd catch of the year for show averages about 18 to catch once again drag route going from the bottom to the top stiff arm to work the corner gets it close to the marker give him nine second and short back to line quickly right now they waste no time neither one of these teams change of play play clock at 10. lawrence again pumps and looking he's got his man out in the open and oh he almost got it tj what a great job on defense by tyrese jones to break it up these one-on-one matchups jones a little shaken up here after the play [Music] working backward and then just the boy the collision there trying to reach over the top of tyrese jones for the catch can't come down with it jones up on his feet and back into it pretty impressive effort there so third and one now 502 to go lawrence empty backfield quick to jefferson he's got the first down pass midfield still on his feet out of bounds then at the 46 and cartersville continues to move the chains against this defense t.j williams on the stop six receptions so far by the cartersville offense five different receivers and once again it's you're sending guys deep and then you have a bit of a drag by jefferson just someone underneath is a bit of an outlet that can has speed and can get to the corner or get to the edge and work once they've got the football nice job there by jefferson first time again he'll get the lion's share of carries as we mentioned before they don't run much when they do he gets the ball short gain brings up second down zach johnson the five 880 pound senior with the tackle look at the cut back by kramer but then look how many dark shirts meet him right after the cutback you're going to see a lot of gang tackling by thompson defensively a lot of guys want to get their helmet toward the football when it comes to the defense of the bulldogs one thing cartersville does very well they pick at you pick out you pick action all of a sudden they feel deep for a touchdown um it's a big play offense right now and they're just going along and just take what the defense is giving them coach coaching says that they want to do week in week out and here we go it's going up top and long it's still just a bit out of bounds incomplete and kenneth number three ej turner but it's that kind of play again the short stuff short stuff shortstop and trying to see him getting beat you deep but what you're looking at as a corner as they both kind of drift you see tyrese jones use the boundary as an extra defender kind of closing the amount of space that ej turner had to catch the ball and turner drifted out of bounds if that ball had been thrown maybe five yards inside as opposed to a back shoulder throw it would have been a long completion yeah so third and eight now for cartersville for the thompson 44. takes the handoff instead of anton jefferson it was tipped jefferson reaching back still almost pulled it in and brings up fourth down and the punt team will come on for cartersville big mitz devin randle is a part of that now watch the three down hands in the pattern and right in there is the deflection by nicholson the junior once again hands in the passing lane do anything you can to disrupt an offense like this big stop here for the bulldogs defense and so it's jonathan cruz on the punts and christian tut is back to receive inside his own tent side of his foot and way way off the side let's see what i'm going to mark this [Music] let's take a look at what the thompson bulldogs have done in their time as a program out in mcduffie county luther welsh two stints 84 to 90 99 to 2010. all those wins one of the hall of famers in georgia high school history 183 wins playoffs 16 of the last 18 years the five state titles you see they've won groups of two 67 68 84 85 and then the one on gpb in 2002 live action with the ground yeah bubba murray they're saying he's down though bubba murray the other thousand yard rusher uh he's a backup all he does is average seven point six yards for kerry yeah when you've got mikey when you got michael thomas over 2200 yards at a little over eight bubba murray at seven and a half you can see as a team almost 4 400 yards rushing eight yards of carry as a team this season thompson out of that adjusted pistol moving on the front line it looks like carterville jumped number [Applause] [Music] results in a first down there's joey king looking at 21st century technology trying to figure things out for the next go around [Music] a split back pistol that's not really a set that you see a whole lot and when you have a formation like that that you may see once a year it's almost like going after the veer or something like that that it's a difficult adjustment for you you see split backs in a pistol set or a shotgun set so it's almost like a shotgun veer look and you have a week maybe to prepare for it so your coaches are working overtime looking at all of those formations to figure stuff out and you had both thousands of russians back there thomas and murray thomas on the carry here but slipped his knee was down even before the defenders got to him so i'm gonna mark him back to the line of scrimmage it'll be second down and make that third down and 10. darien pullman's in on the tackle and the reassurance that michael thomas was in fact down so you see right there there's an up back and split backs for a shotgun riding's looking deep down the middle he's got a bit of a whole bunch of coverage whole bunch of shirts right there incomplete williams and coax him on the defense on a ball intended for trey parker but it'll be a fourth down and a punt team comes out again for the bulldog two by two back in the back and you see it's almost a post up move with parker and you see all the hands in there defensively for cartersville evan williams and xavier coax coxson in there as the two defenders back at center field yeah that ball floating at quite a bit on that as we see now evan williams uh back uh deep right now as uh back on the motion through this is a and what a play here for cartersville they can bring them down so they haven't but here's what happened on that they were trying to decoy the defense uh marcus cade he's your punter he lined up actually in a receiver situation on the slot there was nobody uh behind snap casually walked back some confusion along the line saying we'll look at it here and as you can see as you mentioned yeah it was it they're trying to fool somebody and as a result what a major error in special teams for thompson they not only don't get the punt away but they lose 15 yards and give cartersville the ball on their own 32. ron ridings is called a timeout he wants to calm folks down thompson for the first time out yeah they were trying to be slick if you noticed the usual punt returner for cartersville is antoine jefferson well because they never really got back into pun formation instead it was cade uh i'm sorry number five evan williams who is back for cartersville all right so let's take a look at the formation again all of that stuff going on christian tut in motion and it hit tut going by and then it's you know fire fire fire we've got to figure out what to do here and get rid of it as quickly as possible and it ends up winning at big lost on special teams for thompson so either christian tut's motion was too slow and snapping it back to whatever the thought was on special teams or tuttle's supposed to get it on something akin to a jet and work his way up to the top of the screen as folks are trying to get it in their mind's eye yeah there's obviously some miscommunication there and the whole setup and i think that's what coach riding's trying to figure out now is where it broke down but now you put your defense on the spot ball at the thompson 32 first and ten for cartersville florence going deep got it got a man oh he can't bring it in almost had the catch [Music] wind up and throw lawrence locked in from the beginning he knew what he wanted to do and fiji couldn't bring it down with his left hand he had the distance and what you're seeing in the thompson defensive backs they're giving the ultimate respect to trevor lawrence at the line of scrimmage you're seeing seven yard cushions for the most part you see down at the bottom of the screen seven yard cushions and then close up top lawrence under pressure throws it away incomplete good pressure there by number six xavius lewis the linebacking core for thompson 180 230 185 175 but if you can get to the point of attack first that's what happens sending a lot of guys on blitz up through garden tackle gaps forcing trevor lawrence into a decision and that decision was just to throw it away oh yeah they've got some quick linebackers there lewis has seven sacks on the year rivers has seven johnson has six third and ten now lauren's under pressure again gets away this time he's a i tell you what's always a sign when the uh no one's celebrating along that cartersville offensive line they're all staying right there about the yard line it's a bunch formation send them all and then you have the one receiver tail off and be the outlet on a drag route and that's what you hit there with jefferson but let's see what the call is i think the body language gives it away yeah back ten to see where it happens here along the front line right in the middle of the screen looks like right there maybe when you're trying to handle aj larkins at 5 10 300 pounds was both hands full in the center of the screen that time yeah bryce wilkins there are two fouls on the play blocking the back on the offense that penalty's declined holding on the offense 10 yard penalty replay third down makes it out third down and 20 for the purple hurricanes high-powered offense scored a season-low 26 points in the quarter-finals when they beat woodward academy 26-15 up 7-0 here on a trey creamer three yard run on the opening drive [Music] back to the bulldog 47 need to get down to the actual third and 25 now excuse me spot foul move it back ten they gotta get to the 22. lawrence throwing out trying to avoid pressure all kinds of black shirts gets free of that nothing downfield great job by the thompson defense to lock down his receivers dontavious rivers 42 in on that pressure and once again pressure coming from multiple angles giving trevor lawrence a lot to think about you see the inside stunt there challenge force him to run and he's throwing with his body there and he had the opportunity to get rid of the ball but he's forced out of bounds all the way back to the 43 of cartersville great defensive stand by the bulldogs to create a 35-yard fourth down situation yeah how about that so crews on the punt for the second time tuts is back to the sea they kick away from him he needs to let that roll no he's not he'll take it fumbles it right into the hands of the cardboard defender number 77 and the purple hurricanes take advantage another turnover on special teams for thompson heads up play by shelton on the coverage [Applause] christian tutton knew it let's take a look tut looking for the bounce picks it up and just lost the handle on it but a lot of white jerseys down there tut knows the turf picked it up and it just went right through his hands five cartersville players there shelton the lineman credited with the recovery and another short field for cartersville yeah christian tut averaging 32 yards per return on a punch but the fumble there and now it's back to carversville under 15 of thompson quick toss here inside that's to antoine jefferson the leading receiver his helmet comes off there's a flag on the play and maybe a face mask against thompson so jefferson coming in 60 catches on the season to lead this cartersville team gets another catch here down close to a first down and the penalty on top of it cartersville getting close another score and because the helmet came off he's got to go off for a play there's your face mask call so half the distance you got to put it down to about the two and a half and that's a little scrum once again you've got man coverage here but you see jefferson just kind of trot out knowing it's going to be a screen tut grabbing the shoulder pads personal foul face mask on the defense half the distance to the goal first down a little frustration there by the thompson defense so tut was involved quattro hot number 24. so cartersville now first and goal down on the two yard line trying to make it a 13-nothing game here before the end of the first quarter you see 41 darian poland's in as a full back brandon wade a defensive lineman 51 in as a fullback creamer does he get in no they're going to another helmet coming off so power football by cartersville yeah with the two defensive linemen pulling to the right creamer cuts it back to the left just shy of the goal line there once again remember just as long as the ball breaks the plane that's your touchdown second down and goal power set again through 93 trade with jose on that stop it's a creamer again he stops once again great job there by zach johnson great penetration by johnson that time watch 17 on defense come through on the right hand side of your screen goes under the lineman he goes under brandon wade 51 grabs the ankles and gets the tackle so they lose a yard third and goal yeah he's five eight 180 as coaches he plays like he's six two two thirty says he's one of the best i've ever closed third and going down to the public hurricanes and this time creamer goes in for a second touchdown of the game cartersville on the board again before the end of the first quarter [Music] cartersville close range they're going to bring in the biggens there's your lead blockers and this time it was everybody power right situation and creamer takes it into the end zone with 10 seconds to go here in the first quarter [Music] jonathan cruz on for the extra point it's up and good and 14-nothing cartersville and johnny you think about it if you take a look at the tcsg touchdown replay you can't give this cartersville offense that many chances on a short field and it finally uh pays off for the hurricanes power power power right and once again kramer just follows the blocks that were created big holes this time watch the right hand side of the screen you've got wade you've got pullman's goes in right off the left hip of brandon wade for the six points they're gonna hit that same spot every time they tried it before it didn't work go at it again go at it again until you get it and for know that guy mark harmon mark harmon got a football what year did he wait a minute hey wait a minute here how does mark hart no no no the harm what is it the harmonsmen i guess i think so marksman that's the marksman award what they're doing right now is honoring each individual school that has won a championship in the history of the georgia dome since if everything ends up the way that gary phillips said in his interview earlier today that uh everything will be over mercedes-benz stadium next year for the ghsa championship so that'll be a treat that's assuming it's done by next december yes at this rate right now we're looking at august he said that his out loud voice by the way there you go i did and you're seeing you know this is you have sponsors coming through you have teams coming through just everyone who's been a part of it with the ghsa and i've still got to figure out how mark harmon ended up getting a football so it's been one big celebration there's dr ralph games or 37 hours eight games and there used to be the semi-finals here before it was the finals so we would start at nine o'clock in the morning on friday do five games then come back around saturday morning at 9 00 a.m and do five more games and that was when they had the finals at the home sites okay so we used to do ten games then we would do two and now we're doing football fridays and taya ryan the president and ceo georgia public broadcasting everyone at gpb knowing the value of what football means to not just athletics departments but to communities on the whole and you're seeing that here at the georgia dome one last time absolutely it's been a great gesture we've actually we've had those going on throughout the weekend uh some between corners some after games as well mark hartman by the way getting that football on behalf of the gpb coverage and all that we've done so we thank all of you for being with us for these 20 years uh penalty flag just making sure that we know where mark puts that foot yes that's right i guess as it ends up in his office on the offense five-yard penalty so thompson trying to get to a bit of a hurry to get this off and started here in the second the way through trevor lowe also in on it bit of a frustrating night so far for michael thomas first quarter six carries net 28 yards and 25 of that came on one carry right loss of two there third and fourteen now ridings looking deep trying to get low back in a hurry great job there by number 18 trey parker but it's broken up fiji again and so another pun situation now for thompson there you see looked like fiji wanted to box out and he had the interception so it ended up being a great defensive play really by trey parker to keep fiji from getting the interception and giving another short field to that cartersville offense so forth and long now out to punt for thompson that's antoine jefferson back to receive the pun how about the bulldog 45 fair catch now at midfield and that's where he'll take him that's where carter's little offense will come back again 34-yard punts for marcus cade this is game three in our fourth uh and final game of the night and final game of the weekend coming up next class 7a championship and this one should be another great one roswell versus grayson you know john we talked earlier in the year we said we got to see these two meetings uh in september and december and sure enough here they are the class 7a championship matchup should be a good one battle of depending on which pole you pay attention to number five versus number 10 nationally with grayson and all the expectations that they've had they've made it to game 15. roswell was in game 15 last year and they're making a return visit cody's one offense now lawrence up top trying to go deep to creamer oh he dropped it he can't believe it creamer already two rushing touchdowns i think uh johnny already had dreams of scoring his first receiving touchdown of the night that's when when you're looking at the finish line before you've got the baton there it is creamer oh my goodness in and out of the hands pressure up the middle trevor lawrence saw it coming got rid of the football hit creamer in stride but it was incomplete trevor lawrence now 7-15 passing in the game for 61 yards closer coverage now by the secondary of thompson looks like man they might drift off here a little bit up top there's your seven yard cushions watch for slants not too hard trying to get it to jefferson but to your point that's you know a lot of the stuff they they've been trying is underneath because they do have that cushion and the guys are backing off right you'll see trevor lock in and throw and then what they do is they just settle right into a little pocket fastball in and out of the catcher's glove incomplete so that brings up third down and 10 now changing the play five of seven on third downs carter's though laura's gonna roll out under a bit of pressure 25 and he rakes the right arm to separate the ball from tj horton so great defensive awareness by tyrese jones there nice job by the defense thompson's defense coming through on this one so fourth and ten jonathan cruz out to punt again it's his third part of the game and tut who fumbled the last punch that led to the second carter's little touchdown back to receive inside his own 20. just over a minute gone it's a fake thrown up top and he's got his man completes and stood on his feet evan williams [Applause] 45 yard completion how do you like me now jonathan cruz on the pass that fake punts and cartersville going to their bag of tricks to keep this drive alive and get it inside the 10 and going for another score first pass of the year for jonathan cruz the formation was spread out a little more than you might be used to seeing when it comes to the pundits just wind up and throw let's go look at throw wide open at the 30. that was a good looking throw all the way down to the five cartersville's in business looked like rugby right just wound up and threw it and evan williams surrounded by three thompson shirts but it was right there for him this will start over five yards back prior to the snap false start on the offense five yard penalty replay first down [Music] little has gone wrong for cartersville what a great call right there by joey king trying to go 42 and two and back-to-back state championships in his three years at the helm of the purple hurricanes what a job they've done how about jonathan cruz still getting accolades for that throw oh yeah when the special teams guy winds up and throws and they do something that's it's tricky on special teams you know the punter he's going to milk it for all his worth place kickers milk that stuff for all their workers yeah i did something other than kick the ball man i can throw two see in there i'm good that's right so good see first and goal now lawrence looking left quick pass incomplete yeah you get a flag from it to ej turner they're gonna looks like trying to get the 24 quattro hunt on the penalty [Music] once again just go down a couple of yards turn it in defensive holding yep and that ball comes out of this so fast when we look at it right here lawrence with a quick throw slant that's what they're looking at right there then they called it punt was climbing the ladder a little bit but rob rottings disagrees you saw him right there bad call yep so not only does it get those five yards back but it's again restarts uh the down sequence it's back to first and goal at the five yard line for cartersville already up 14 nothing power set again untouched third rushing touchdown of the game for trey creamer and the defending champs are rolling right now but a flag on the play yeah and then they come back holding on the offense 10-yard penalty replay first down one more look at it kind of a strange player john that that toss almost didn't make it to creamer yeah i think that trevor thought creamer might be a little closer than he was and so trevor got kind of caught between motions and speed and trying to figure it out there's the point of attack so somewhere in all that white and purple and black and gold they call tents and they move back to them first and goal now from the 20 lawrence going to be trying to get turner again he's incomplete i don't know if that slipped out of his hand or not it looked like the trajectory went a little north [Music] again that's a play that said in it's part of their warm-ups [Music] that quick one two and throw they do quite a bit there he and the backup quarterback t webb who hasn't had a pass yet for the varsity this year but already as we know offered by louisville as a seventh grader yes seventh grader by the way state of georgia when you get lawrence out of the way after next year that's what you got waiting for you this cartersville office yeah tea is gonna be an under an understudy for another 27 minutes or so yeah and then and then next year creamer stays on his feet for the touchdown they don't see any flags the broken tackle at the beginning of the play almost seemed to slow the whole play down and then creamer worked his way down the far sideline into the end zone touchdown for the canes one thing we don't talk about is creamer's receiving ability 37 receptions coming into this game and already that's his sixth receiving touchdown on the season already 20 rushing touchdowns 26 total three of them here tonight the extra point is good by jonathan cruz and uh cruising is what cartersville is doing right now as we think of the tcsg touchdown replay john here's your wind-up there's the little screen again you see four offensive linemen the blocking and then just creamer with a high step making his way in but when you've got all of those guys and trevor lawrence is now t3 kahari lane you saw earlier in the day when it comes to passes or to touchdown pass a single season kohari lane past hudson mason and now has the standard so trevor lawrence is now tied with uh some guy who's up for a trophy in the college ranks he's okay yeah he's he's a fair player fair player out of gainesville there's your tcsg zones it comes down on mapping to the 20 and so thompson now uh john what do you do i mean it's do what brought you here you still have plenty of time and and seriously i mean you're looking at it you've got 9 45 to go second quarter just taking a possession of time and i think that that's probably a lot of the conversation on the thompson sideline everything's cool we just have to fix the mistakes focus on the little things and do what got us here because if you get out of your game then you open the door for cartersville that much more nice pass right there passing catch nice job for a first down as thompson gets things going it's writings uh to number 12 on the catch jamaicas taylor quick step quick throw right there settle in get you past the 30 and you'll start it over 11-yard pickup first down [Music] riding's on the keeper now around end nice job i like to try some different things they're keying inside on the run game breaking up the little pass quarterback kiefer five yard gain a couple of back-to-back positive plays for the bulldogs pedro morales in the stop avery show on the top excuse me thompson kind of doing things on the hop here a little bit second and five now riding from the pass again gets out of the pressure and he's finally brought down number 41 darian polnitz also avery show well there as well number 28. so here's your look watch the pressure coming from screen left and screen right darion pulling it's right up the middle as a part of it nice ankle tackle there by scrutins to make it third and five no gain on that play and that's a first down show jumps again and that can be given a first down that's uh twice that's happened that they've writings maybe uh changing his cadence a bit prior to the snap encroachment on the defense results in a first down that's twice that's happened in this game already for the cartersville defense jumped offsides on third down and gave them a first down so thompson two first downs the entire first play what a job damicus taylor the sophomore caught a pass earlier to begin this drive john and they're a nice job they can hand out the ball to their big back mike thomas the flip to taylor who's a quarterback and what a throw he made downfield to parker for the touchdown four completions on the year for taylor two of them for touchdowns [Applause] so of the four passes coming in they averaged 30 yards of play 32 yards of play so you get 59 there simple end around option pass there you go toss wind up throw it as far as you can great gun there 45 yards in the air and then just beating the defense past the plane great job and trey parker number 18 the 6-3 senior he's your big play guy that's his 11th touchdown catch of the season he averages 22 yards per catch 59 on that one as we take a look at the tcsg touchdown scoring drive 80 in four minute 19 11th touchdown in the year for parker by the way that was dakota gergen on the extra point he's now 81 of 86 on the year and so just like that thompson doing some different things not trying to run in between the tackles but going back to their own bag of tricks to kind of change things up and they get on the board you saw thompson's offense kind of do things on the hop in that last drive and then they pull that one they pull the the half back option play out of the back of the playbook and carter's will start at their own 20. and sometimes a spark like that you sit there and you go okay we've given you a haymaker all right you got 21 nothing on us so then we're going to wind up and throw we're going to hit you with something and it proves that you can move on the defending champ yes it is a battle of one versus two but now you've proven to yourselves that you can do stuff you can move the ball on this defense well you get the monkey off your back you know 21 nothing like you said you get get some positive things going your offense scores you're on the board back down to only two touchdowns behind first down here for lawrence and you saw a moment ago eight of 19 for 81 yards he'll keep it this time great spin move ball on the ground here down they're calling down so it'll be second down retains possession right in front of joey king gain of seven second down [Music] once again trevor not necessarily known to tuck and run 187 yards rushing on the season coming in knees were down mentioned again 8 of 19 passing so far for trevor lawrence he said already tonight throwing his 50th touchdown pass of the season second down and three now carter's will left by two touchdowns beside him quick slant left incomplete intended for antoine jefferson they're right there as jacory crawford to break it up one's a third down and three you're seeing what thompson is now doing defensively they're bunching man coverage very very tight man coverage on the receivers off to trevor's left but giving seven yard cushion down below so they think that the first instinct for a right-handed quarterback is to look to your right and throw thus the man coverage real tied up high he has to turn and look and that's going to take some time down low big completion touchdown for cartersville i'll spot you one and i'll raise you one there 73 yards on the score but we have a flag on the play holding and it's coming back it's going to come back the body language of the cartersville offense that's now the second touchdown they've had pullback in this quarter because of a penalty when you saw the question trevor lawrence in his body language you knew something was wrong all right so when you knew going in that the defensive front seven for thompson it was going to be a tough task for the offensive line for cartersville so spot foul from about the 16. holding on the offense half the distance to the goal replay third down so yeah john to your point it's it's not from not from the line of the uh a lot of scrimmages from where it happened watching 152 right here in the middle of the pile and you've got as they're chasing after trevor lawrence too right at the point of release yeah dalen curtis right there jj larkins in pursuit gonna shut down larkins by the way lawrence one of six for uh just 20 yards here in this quarter and he's got his work out from here third and 22. they got to get out to the 30-yard line to keep this drive going five defensive backs in for thompson quick screen you've got blockers a lot of calvary out there he stole his feet he's still jorgen almost gets it oh my goodness 20 yard reception great effort there by transfizze and it brings up fourth in short [Music] five defensive backs you see the stun on the inside trying to bring pressure against lawrence but they do the outlet to fiji great second effort there but just short of the 30 so it's a punting situation for cartersville so jonathan cruz comes back on christian tut back to return for thompson what a job by this bulldogs defense good punt by cruz back to the 35 takes it from there sheds one tackle gets it up over the 40 to the 44.

win there the brickyard mcduffie county sheriff's department brought their helicopter to dry off the field so it could be playable as well because of all the weather that had happened that week in 2002 so it was drying off the field most of the afternoon and there was your offensive coordinator in 2002 rob writings who's also won a state championship as the defensive coordinator when he was at lagrange back in the 90s he's got skills he do 6 28 to go until halftime 21-7 thompson back on offense they hand up the middle to thomas he's past midfield and then somehow close to a first down through about a nine yard pickup it'll be second and short now for the bulldogs and this is it just getting in getting into the rhythm right there just do it find your holes behind that offensive line joey lawrence as we look at our tcsg touchdown replay go over what just happened trevor lawrence looking saw what he wanted down the same showwell right there no problems beats jacory crawford to the football and cartersville gets the opportunity to go back up 21. cruz on for the extra kick and he gets that 28-7 in this carterville cartersville offense that scored 40 points seven times or more appears to be on the way to do it again nice touch there by the way look at that right over the top he knew what he wanted to do from the absolute snap of the ball saw the match up and there's your you're you're seeing all kinds of different guys bunch of pullovers that have different logos on them every college something you haven't even heard of there's a lot of coaches that you see on a yearly basis a lot of big name coaches are here from conferences located in the southeastern part of the united states that's a touch back so they'll start at the 20. and with cut out that was devon crockett back to receive that but again indian zones automatically goes out to the 20-yard line first and ten from there so when we've seen from thompson you take the the scoring drive if you take that when thompson played on the hop just played in rhythm played on the hop and they were getting big chunks of yards you saw michael thomas following that big offensive line that he has getting the yardage that he's accustomed to seeing on a per handoff basis averaging coming into tonight eight yards at carry so let's see what thompson does here good call gets you five second down and five and you know we've talked about this thompson defense and what they've done but the cartersville defense and joey king talking about that saying you know our offense gets all the attention obviously with all the gaudy numbers and all that but their defense uh nine times this year they've allowed less than ten points including three shutouts so this is a team that again doesn't give up many points and doesn't get credit for their defense second on five now writings could snap out to parker he caught the touchdown pass a moment ago 10-yard gain on the first down for the bulldogs just lower your head and get it moving forward move the sticks riding's locked in he's going to look to his left as you're looking at it once again simple pitch and catch fiji in there for the tackle as well as xavier coxon yeah john i think they got to do more of that again just to get a free things up as you mentioned playing rhythm and that's the third time in the game already that the cartersville defense has jumped off side looks like trevor lowe's trying to anticipate the snap on the defense five yard penalty replay first down and come in from the bottom of your screen as you would look at it so move them forward five [Applause] writings under pressure throws it away it is in the grass back there and it's incomplete looks like mill's ridings got kind of caught between ideas it looked like he averaging 313 yards per game so far here in just under two quarters only 51 yards on the ground what a job of the cartersville defense third and four now coach writings see what he draws up handoff there didn't get to the corner to bubba murray the other thousand yard rusher and couldn't get there good team speed on the hurricanes defense coaxum coming in there's your split back set handoff watch 11 come through the hole right there nice shot off the left edge nice tackle to create a fourth down nice job by the safety coaxim brings up fourth down now cade onto punt and that's jefferson back deep and his own 32 for cartersville shift for the rugby looks like they're thinking of faking it again oh no they'll call that an incomplete pass but still it's a turnover on downs cartersville gets it at the 37.

[Music] well thompson's special teams and turnovers is the second uh pun if you will i'm not sure what you're trying to do with that carrying your left hand you can't throw it uh you're not running quickly so another short field for a cartersville offense i think it was an option for kate to do something with it because you saw the shift you saw the shift in the formation before it was snapped to a more of a right-sided strength in that formation so it might have been one thing or the other and i think caden might have been caught between ideas again whether or not he could do a rugby right or try to do some kind of a thing with the handoff to creamer yeah one thing it wasn't uh was a success so first and uh first down run here creamer with the short game brings up second down right now second down at seven look at trevor lawrence what he's done now slow start he's picked things up 12 of 24 152 and now two touchdown passes both coming here in the second quarter one to creamer and one to show up and what you're seeing from thompson's defense when they're sending a lot of pressure it's forcing trevor to think a little more than he's used to probably second out of seven going up top off at least 10. so it looks like a 12 yard cushion from the corner they're gonna let everything happen in front of him right there gets it out towards receiving another crockett first down more and gets out of bounds they move the chains keep this moving trying to get something on the board again just before halftime i think cartersville will receive to start the second half 11 yard pickup there its second in three years beating her benedictine wins its second in three years beating fitzgerald 49-26 and right now we're in for reaction between cartersville and thompson court cartersville has the lead 40 34-7 then at 8 p.m the 7-day showdown between the undefeated roswell hornets and then the 13-1 grayson rams a lot of great football on tap and now we are going to go to a man who needs no introduction so i won't even bother with that but our own john nelson give me the introduction anyway i might as well five books two on high school football in the great state of georgia so it's time one tonight i was going to say actually jackie has a great one tonight we're going to spend some time in greystone power for this one and jackie lets us in on a story of a very courageous family and a very cool young man who is on the sidelines for cartersville on june 2nd 2016 everything changed for garrett garris a football player at cartersville high school i pulled onto the mission road and then i don't remember anything i blacked out then there's a man yelling like are you okay are you okay and i was like am i dreaming and am i gonna die and i remember just waking up my looking at my legs my legs crushed my dad just saying oh my gosh son oh my gosh just to get a phone call that one of your players has been in an accident is you kind of lose your stomach you feel feel terrible no one knows what caused the accident but his father knows one thing it was the scariest moment of his life and i touched him in the hospital bed before he took him to surgery he was ice cold like a dead person and it just at that point right there he just shot me i was like oh my god garrett has always been an athlete and his parents worried more about his mental state after suffering the trauma of losing a leg at 17. but garrett defied all their expectations and has remained positive even after the doctors told him the news he came and he had to explain my leg was amputated and then i had like 15 seconds literally crying 15 seconds then the first thing i asked after that i was like i might even play football again am i going to be able to walk again play sports am i paralyzed and i was like no you're going to be able to do everything you want to do if there's a kid that could go through that and come back from it it's him you know just the attitude that he has and his approach to life in general it doesn't surprise me to see him as energetic and excited to be back as he is the people of cartersville have set up a gofundme account that will go towards his future medical expenses the prosthetic alone costs anywhere from 25 to 35 thousand dollars and has to be replaced every few years but the community has his back the outpour of people who we don't even know who have donated money to us has just been phenomenal this has in no way hindered garrett's goals for the future he's already defying all the doctors expectations walking sooner than they thought finding a new normal and a return to sports he's gonna be on that football field next year i guarantee you and he's gonna wrestle again next year he hasn't looked back since the accident but rather tries to live every day to the fullest don't give up just keep on going and god has a plan for everyone such an inspiring story and a great young man there and garrett jairus john and he's also had the opportunity to come out of the smoke at wineman stadium this year dressing out with the team so once again a tremendous family and i mean that not just for the garris family but for the cartersville family as well that is nelson back here with you the question leading in which is better offense or defense your answer both yes d all of the above carter's been outstanding on both sides of the ball and at the same time the turnovers for thompson created short fields for cartersville and with the offense that is as electric as it is with trevor lawrence at the bark you've seen a lot of situations where trevor has been in complete control yeah he has let's take a look here at some of the halftime stats here as we take a look and uh you can see here number five right there on the right hand side yeah the three turnovers on this and by the way one thing you don't see cartersville four for four and reds and opportunities thompson has yet to get there the one touchdown and that was on the uh the little trick play there on the touchdown pass in cartersville trevor lawrence 7-14 in the first quarter 7-14 in the second quarter so you've seen a lot of stuff down the seams you've seen a lot of the the in routes and they've taken advantage of the big cushions that you've seen from the thompson secondary to create situations where trevor can throw that fastball and they get second and short yardage situations to move the ball down the field yeah coach king said we want to take what they give us and they're taking a lot right now thirty four to seven down this field now to sam crenshaw what do you have for us in the sidelines oh yeah spent some time with coach rob ridings the head coach from thompson high school he says boy in the locker we just had to get our heads back on straight regain our composure it was a big thing he stressed with his team let's get our feet back on the ground and play thompson football he said the team made mistakes in that first half he hadn't seen to make all season long what a time to happen in the state championship game once his defense go out better coverage go out and tackle better and take care of the football on offense [Music] thank you so much we'll see what happens yeah 34-7 thompson will get the ball first we mentioned both of these teams coming in 14-0 both of these teams with outstanding uh gaudy numbers on offense both also very stingy numbers on defense but we have yet to see the offensive thompson uh show up averaging 46 points per game with just the lone touchdown here uh in the first 20. michael thomas 2 000 yard rusher coming in 46 net yards and 11 carries in the first half bubba murray who cleared a thousand yards in the last playoff game against jefferson to get them here has only three net yards on two carries just the second meeting between these two cartersville as we get ready to start play here in the second half [Music] cartersville beating thompson up at their place back in the quarterfinals in 2012 21-13 this one not nearly as close so far could look there at trevor lawrence and john mentioned his numbers in the first half 14 of 28 196 yards and a couple of touchdowns he was sacked twice those two things didn't go well cold start as well really over misfired a lot of those quick slam passes that didn't quite uh work for him but he got things going when the fastball started going yeah it was it was definitely everything was a red route one for cartersville in the first half just straight up and straight down the field and uh not to mention as well uh the kicker jonathan the jonathan cruz show in the first half 50-yarder and a 41-yarder and a 45-yard pass off a fake punch that's right he did it all he might run the ball before it's all over with and i'm sure that he has been giving every teammate an earful hey did you see what i did that's right did you see what i did especially after the pass good look at cruz right there the junior and this is uh number eight uh devon crockett back to uh receive again we did uh didn't talk about a moment ago uh christian tut leaving the game with an injury there late in the second quarter uh he usually is the returner and so we don't expect him to see him back just yet we'll keep an eye on that for you as well kickoff down to the two yard line crockett across the 25 to the 30 in there he's finally down at the 31 yard line that's where thompson's offense will start and trying to get something going here in the second half xavier coax him on the tackle for cartersville so once you know you're just looking at right now with thompson coming back out there's miller mills ridings the junior and it's okay 34-7 great let's just do our offense we know we have some catching up to do and it seemed like when they started to play in rhythm and in a bit of a hurry up they were getting a big chunk yeah exactly hand off right here question to thomas him finally it's around the right side gets some good yardage almost out to the 40 and uh the thompson sideline wanting a flag for a little extra curricular activities there in the center with a bit of the the grab of the upper part of the jersey running to the left-hand part of your screen they get to the corner which is big for thompson and then you see fizzy right there with a little bit of a swoop to emphasize that yes the play is over and you sir are out of bounds nine yard pickup now second down changing the play plenty of time on the play clock opening minute here of the second half thompson trying to get something going get back in this class for a title game a little trick there writings back but great bounce coming out of it from michael thomas the 5 10 185 pound senior play fake one play fake two play fake there play fake their watch ridings sees thomas and bounce right off of fije spins it back up field for another couple of yards seven yard pickup on that play first down for the thompson bulldogs out to the 47. thomas then on the handoff met early defense does it again touchdown for hurricanes fourth lost fumble of this game for thompson [Music] the running game and the rhythm game working for thompson but once again as fiji gets the big hug from joey king as he gets to the sidelines tremendous effort by the cartersville defense to create another turnover and give joey king a bit of a laugh with trace fiji cruz in for the p.a.t trying to make it 41-7 here cruz as we said has been busy a couple of field goals he threw a pass he's the punter through a pass on a fourth down fake punt and he puts that one through from 41-7 good look there at transfigure in your tcsg touchdown replay 60-yard fumble return right here after thomas coughed it up thomas gets stripped on the way down and fizzy just picks it up and he gets to the corner and he's gone after about the first 15 yards fiji had clear sailing to get into the end zone 41 points on the board now for cartersville and we're just uh over a minute and two minutes into uh the second half here and their offenses still hasn't even taken the field here in the second half by the way give it a nice credit to xavier cox him on the strip that created that fumble and pj took the rest of the way 41 to 7. you're supposed to look into the camera look at yourself in the big board because you're being yeah there you go look forward yeah how big is this for thompson they this is the season high they had not allowed more than 23 points this entire season that was in that 57-23 victory over america sumpter last month so their offense writing's offense rob riding's offense will try it again carter hill coming in 14-0 it has not been their night cruise on the kick into the end zone and they'll go out to the 20 once again try again johnny your point one thing we you know that we talked about when they did get some success in that that one scoring drive they went outside the tackles trying to create some things um trying to shake things up try anything well yeah i mean you're trying to see what you can do to get points back on the board quickly and now you're having to do that all over again down 41-7 so once again it's getting into rhythm getting comfortable with being in rhythm usually thompson will run the ball run the ball and run the ball but they've had to use the pass more just because they've been trailing so it's a bit of unfamiliar territory right now offensively when what they're used to doing routine oh my goodness and now the wheels are starting to come carson murray with the pickup five lost fumbles in this football game one more look at it here bubba murray murray has never had it don't know if it went if it hadn't gone all the way in in the handoff from writings or it seemed like it was almost in between possessions with writings trying to hand it didn't like it was looked like it was all the way into the pocket as murray was trying to grab onto it and just fell out of the pocket and there you see a lot of the senior leaders and the offensive leaders for thompson trying to rally around their young player there meanwhile the cartersville offense up 41-7 and creamer now a rare carry didn't see much of him late in the second half as it was the lawrence show but he gets a pick up there of about five make about four second and six and there was a good sign in the quarter of this in the corner of the screen involved in that tackle christian tut back in the ball game for thompson great to have him back in there no question right there uh tj horton going to throw up and instead runs it instead and goes in for a first down i think that was headed back to trevor lawrence because you can see lawrence go back into the pattern and work his way down the post motion end around you can see trevor work the seam tried to work his way down the middle of the field and horton was looking to throw it there but he had to tuck and run and go out of bounds and trevor almost looked like he was going to throw a block there had he made the corner yeah eight-yard pickup there uh by t.j horton so now first and goal we talked about again this powerful offense you give the ball on a short field again uh inside the 20 of thompson they're now inside the 10. creamer 13th carry on the night trying to dive in and he can't get it slipped through two tackles to get to the two yard line almost got the lunge into the end zone times down to one it's a six yard gain for him so now 33 yards in the night on 13 carries for the senior creamer there's the one tackle he goes through there's the other just didn't quite have his footing underneath him to get it down for a second goal situation from the one it looks like what's carter's we're gonna do here cartersville's not gonna put power formation and it'll be three wide yeah second down maybe try a pass play maybe or he'll keep it himself no to creamer he just waltzes in for his third rushing touchdown fourth touchdown total of the game and cartersville just pouring it on 82 dressed out for the championship game the junior defensive back lost the lower part of his left leg in an automobile accident but he has remained a part of the program and the program has remained a big part of the garris family's life and you see him dressing out for a championship game that is so cool i mean that that is a that is an unbelievable amount of cool to see garrett garris dressing outside really is and what a great story uh the way they've really rallied around him and this cartersville team on their way and appears right now to a 30-game win streak in back to back 15 of those seasons as they're in control here 48-7 thompson their only score of the game coming back at the 8-26 mark the back-up quarterback is taylor hitting trey parker that's good to see christian tut number one he is in there to receive so that was the one play at the 826 mark in the second quarter uh the only touchdown for a team that has averaged 46 points per game this season we've got a lot of work cut out for him here tonight in this 4a championship game the class 7a game coming up next roswell versus grayson on the way here and a little over an hour here after 8 o'clock and joey king has said you know he's excited where the program is right now and you know joey being the the kind of the self-deprecating sort that he is every once while he says i just try not to mess it up every day right the 33 without marking much further upfield than that still going at the 36 yard line that's where they will take over 24 yard punts for marcus kate [Music] and trevor lawrence we talked about how he started he's been on a roll ever since then uh ending the first half six of nine passes for 115 yards and a [Music] touchdown 48 to 7 and so cartersville thanks in part to the five fumbles lost by the thompson offense eighth time this year they've scored 40 points they've gone over 50 five times this year can they do it first and ten oh dizzy wanted to run with it before he got it yeah you saw and he overthrows him playing well covered by corey crawford but uh boy that was one that turner had to step on him another junior he's coming back next year yes fourth and 15 now it'll be cruz out to pun another junior who's coming back next year he's got the thing cartersville trying to go into next year on a 30-game win streak again with uh so much of the key core of this team coming back next year 40 and two 42 and two is what they're trying to be here at the end of their third year into that man joey king so jonathan cruz is on the kick kicking it away from christian tut and that will bounce out of bounds near midfield 19 yards for cruz but he says that's better than getting it into the hands of christian top they've kicked it away from him the entire night 506 to go in the third quarter as you can see by the score it's been all cartersville they took the opening kickoff right down trey creamer scoring the first of his four touchdowns on the night on a three-yard dive he scored again later made it 14-0 at the end of one and again it's been all cartersville 48-7 out thompson offense setting up righties trying to throw deep into double coverage trey parker is there but it's broken up great play there by xavier coax him to knock the ball away and you're seeing that a lot with the cartersville secondary mill's riding's throwing down the center of the field but you see two white jerseys there and we've seen that a lot tonight fije was there coaxium was there yeah riding's when he goes deep it he puts a lot of air into it and allows those defensive backs to kind of come in and make a play on the ball second and ten now that's michael thomas behind him writings to parker but right there is fiji well he's been busy tonight he's called him 30 times already on both backs why not give that a shot a little more often like i said when they do it it's worked first and 10 now from the 26 of cartersville writings under some pressure gets out of it going into the end zone a little bit high and it is picked off xavier coax them again getting a little bit of air underneath that trying to get it to trey parker colson coming in making the grab in the interception from cartersville you'll see all the bodies for thompson going up against all the folks in the offensive line for cartersville and if you can get a hole as everyone's going to try to defend off of after that one yeah 106 yards now for him on 15 carries three touchdowns on the ground and a fourth through the air and cartersville once again is in thompson territory just like that one play after the interception first and ten handoff this time too the backup running back guy you never see very often dominique williams the junior he gets a few who will be back next year i'll be back next year [Music] dominique williams averages about a carry a game but after a 72-yard run he'll stay in there for a little while 64 yards on the season for 22. how about that a seven yard pickup for a guy who doesn't see much action not bad second and three now from the 20 hand off again to williams he's corralled early on before he gets a too much of a head of steam by our test banks the linebacker two rushes seven yards and i'm gonna head back out [Music] under three minutes to go now cartersville villain control a guy like williams can get lost behind that large offensive line that cartersville has and he can find a hole and you saw what he was able to do on those two carries third and three now no gain on that plate for williams kramer back in the game as john mentioned he's on the right side of lawrence he'll throw again oh he's under pressure had to get away in a hurry nobody put a body on dontavious rivers bug [Music] so to go fourth down and three and jonathan cruz cruz comes out for his third attempt at a field goal two for two tonight you can see there on your screen if you had jonathan cruz in your fantasy team that was seven points because it's four for the 50 and then three for the 41. that's right the sunny lineup at the 27th i think it's extra points uh also since he threw the pass yeah 37-yard fuel field goal attempt here good job with the hold and it's good great job right there by number 15 carson murray to corral that ball it's a bad snap cruz puts it through and there it is for the sixth time this season cartersville puts 50 on the board 51-7 cruz with the uh a little bit of a hook on it since he lined up the way that he did had to swing a little faster than normal bring it in with a little bit of a hook and it's all good 51 points on the board for cartersville dominating performance all three phases and there's a lot of purple here a lot of purple here to see the second consecutive game 15 that the hurricanes are in and they will leave today having won 30 in a row and then people will start looking at that 2017 schedule trying to figure out where that first game is going to be and how trevor lawrence will be in his senior season we're going to look at christian tut will be back for his senior season a lot of colleges keeping an eye on him as a lockdown corner scoring drive there for cartersville five plays 79 yards in only a minute 38 helped again by that 72 yard run by creamer from the one yard line to get that going cruz with the kick taken inside the endzone but i guess not and let him play and get down to the 15-yard line ball hadn't crossed the plane so technically he picked it up with the one takes it out to the 15. so as long as the ball doesn't cross correct feet can be in the ball still have failed to play very good so first and ten now for thompson they will take over at their own 16 16-yard line this was a 34-7 score at halftime thompson with back-to-back fumbles one returned for a touchdown by transfize and the other led to a touchdown by the offense and we just saw the field goal a moment ago big stiff arm there lowers the shoulder gets a couple yards there out of bounds at the 20s we'll pick up a four for michael thomas coach is saying he's fun to coach he can really make the cut plays tough but boy it's been tough tonight for everyone wearing black and you've seen just what carter's cartersville has been able to do defensively getting hats to the football creating turnovers thomas again here on second down and what a great play by showwell avery show was right there for the stop to drop thomas for a loss all the way back to the 15 one more look at him watch toward the turf you'll see a dive by shoel watch the grab right there going right after the ankles forces thomas to make a decision gets caught up in showel ends up falling down at the end of the play so he gained four then he loses five third at 11 now taking down the 90 seconds left in this third quarter mill's writings playing clock down to three handoff to thomas and the defense again not much doing holton on the stop and fourth down again for the bulldogs you know holton coming into this game the leading 46-yard line 36-yard punt for marcus cade of thompson jefferson for those that know your cartersville history lee miles nephew part of that early 2000s teams and uh it looks like if you know what lee miles looked like as a player you look at what antoine jefferson looks like as a player number seven right there identical the five eight 165 pound running back so if this was a mathematical equation antoine jefferson equals lee miles version 2016. there you go 48 seconds left here it's been all cartersville back on offense again trevor lawrence the junior what a season he's had 51 touchdown passes trying to add to that screen pass out of the hands of creamer a little bit ahead of him you can see that develop that's what they wanted to do you'll see running backs just take a little bit of a circle route to get ready to have that momentum to go forward kramer took a little bit of a circle but it was through his hand second down 51 points highest point total for cartersville in these playoffs highs of the season 77 scored against chesterton last month 77-14 the final amount second and ten here lawrence going to keep it himself gonna get down and he does not tackle there made by he's got a man open deep and there will be a nice defensive play no flag on that nice defensive play that time by jacory crawford antoine jefferson was the intended receiver watch the angle box out right hand up ball goes away great job trevor lawrence did not uh and that and that is that is a you know with trevor throwing that incompletion there should and once again remember this is running and that's where thompson will take over and the point that we made about the vaunted rushing attack of thompson 30 carry 68 net yards today 2 000 yard rusher mike thomas 58 net yards bubba murray the thousand yard rush of the sophomore eight yards net on four carries wow first and ten for thompson offense got a stat on them in a minute here we'll see the first the handoff that's to thomas he gets through the wave still on his feet down at the 18-yard line just about seven yards uh in that third quarter here's what's amazing cartersville ran 14 offensive plays thompson ran 22 and yet the score no points for thompson 17 for cartersville thanks again to that defense the two fumbles and those turnovers six fumbles on the day for thompson five of them lost to cartersville an interception as well right six turnovers total second and three thomas another fumble picks it up recovers finds his way out of bounds show well leads mike thomas out of bounds [Music] ball hits the turf tom thomas has presence of mine to pick it up and showel just ushers him out of bounds so third down and four now from the 17. rob ridings what a job he's done four wins in 2014 11 last year 14-0 this year third punt antoine jefferson back to receive for cartersville and once again let's talk pedigree for thompson five-time state champ 67-68 84 85-02 rob ridings the offensive coordinator for lucha welsh in that game in 2002 at the brickyard where they beat thomas county central and you talk about guys like ray guy and eddie lee ivory eddie lee ivory thompson high grad who's a running backs coach false start on the offense five-yard penalty for the bulldogs these days jerry mays who had a career at georgia tech and in the nfl darius eubanks jasper brinkley who a lot of folks remember here in high school went to south carolina played with the giants and there's and jasper's son is now on the roster so you see how once again it's towns and families and how they're part of that framework and thompson is an example of that fair catch of the 47.

grader so how old are you when you're in seventh grade what is that uh 12 12 13. yeah does the 12 or a 13 year old that gentleman right there nine white got an offer from louisville and off again to williams on the first down he's got some room nifty moves there for the junior gets it out to the 31. and john i was watching uh you know during warm-ups he yeah i know he's got these well he's got the same motion the same skills as what lawrence does for those who saw football fridays when we had cartersville and central carroll earlier this year yeah you got to see t webb play in the fourth quarter then as well so it looks like joey king in cartersville the the cupboard is quite stocked for the next couple seasons this kid might start for a lot of times look at that nifty here to the 20 up 17 to marry persons and merry persons actually had the lead in that yeah before cartersville came back and put the pedal down third and fourth quarter for the duke trevor lawrence here it is we mentioned again he had the 196 yards was 14 of 28 at halftime so all for six in the third quarter but still 196 two touchdowns more important fractions how many quarterbacks can say they get to play their senior year they have back-to-back state championships back state championships and 42 wins in his three seasons as quarterback and in the three seasons a semi-final appearance and two state championships and remember just what we've seen with trevor lawrence as he has evolved from his sophomore to his junior year other than the fact that we said go with the flow they went with the flow
